"The human body is a river of intelligence, energy and information that is constantly renewing itself in every second of its existence." -- Deepak Chopra
What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ‘ray’ ‘key’) is a natural, hands-on energy healing technique that allows the recipient to tap into his or her own natural ability to heal by the balancing of energy. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy.” Although Reiki is centuries-old, it was rediscovered in the mid-1800's by a Japanese-born Buddhist monk, Dr. Mikao Usui. Its popularity has now spread all over the world and is widely accepted as a complementary treatment to Western medicine or as a stand-alone therapy.
We all know when we have a lack of energy: we feel lethargic, unwell or ‘just not right’. During a Reiki session, positive energy flows, cleansing the body of built-up toxins or pain (physical and emotional). Just as a massage therapist releases tension by massaging knotted muscles, Reiki releases energetic tension, blockages, or imbalances, allowing your energy to flow freely through your body bringing about a feeling of rejuvenation and wellness. It soothes the central nervous system, calms the mind and accelerates the body’s natural ability to heal itself physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually -- all while creating a state of deep relaxation.

Compliments traditional medical treatments
Reiki is a great tool for stress reduction and relaxation. Many people use Reiki as part of their regular self-care routine. Reiki is not a cure for a disease or illness, but it may assist the body in creating an environment to facilitate healing. Reiki is often used as a complement to traditional medicine and is practiced in many hospitals and medical care settings.
What can I expect from a Reiki session?
Reiki is a very gentle therapy. The treatment is carried out with the recipient fully clothed, resting comfortably on a massage table (or sitting, if preferred). The Reiki practitioner will move through various hand positions throughout the session, either placing their hands lightly on the recipient or holding them slightly above the body. If a client prefers not to be touched, they can indicate this to the practitioner before they begin. Clients have reported a variety of sensations during Reiki sessions, including warmth or coolness in certain areas, a gentle "pins and needles" or tingling sensation, lightness or heaviness in the body, or visual images. While each Reiki experience is unique, nearly all Reiki clients report a feeling of deep, peaceful relaxation.
